The vision of Meals 2 Music began in 1982 with Walter E. Lynch, a DC-based architect and developer who worked on some of Washington’s most notable landmarks, including the World Bank headquarters, Mayflower Hotel, FedEx Field, Willard Hotel, and more.
While Walter helped redevelop some of the city’s poorest neighborhoods, he witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of displacing residents from their communities. He met struggling families fighting to keep their children healthy and safe. He envisioned a world where no child was ever hungry, and after-school programs were available as a safe haven for learning, exploration and fun.
Over the years, Walter’s presence and influence inspired many clients to add value to the neighborhoods in which they operate. The Wayne K. Curry Sports & Learning Center opened in Landover, Maryland in and The Magna Baltimore Training Center opened its doors in the fall of 2005. Walter was instrumental in their development, as well as other community centers in and around Washington and Baltimore.
With the help of his family, Walter founded Meals 2 Music to continue a legacy of bringing food and the arts to children everywhere. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, over one in five U.S. children live in households that are food insecure, defined as “a household-level economic and social condition of limited access to food.” Meals 2 Music is passionately committed to righting this wrong.
